Planning your Stay - A Brief Guide

Introduction | Things to do Pt.1 | Things to do Pt. 2

Introduction

The experiece of India is best when savoured, not rushed. First time visitors often want to 'do' India, and plan trips covering enormous distances -which leave them too tired to enjoy themselves, and in need of a good holiday. So much goes on in India, however, that one scarcely needs to move out of ones chair to have a wealth of experiences!

Mysore is a good base from which to see an enormous range of sites - temples, palaces, Raj history, folklore, crafts, and countryside. The Green Hotel has a travel desk which can organise car rental, hotel bookings, and airline and train tickets. They can advise on excursions and provide drivers and guides as requested. Their rates are clearly displayed and are fixed prices.

Take the opportunity to do things you have always wanted to:

Learn Yoga
The hotel has a distinguished yoga teacher on call. If you want to take the opportunity to learn or improve your yoga, we can arrange daily lessons. Enquire at reception.

Learn to swim
There are swimming pools at two hotels: Lalita Mahal and the Southern Star. For the more adventurous, the university has an Olympic size pool (ladies and gentlemen swim at different times). Enquire at reception. The university swimming pool provides an interesting insight into Indian society and the other users are friendly and anxious with foreigners. It also has excellent teachers -probably have you swimming in a week!

Massage
Be pampered with a daily massage -ask at reception.

Get your wardrobe copied
Have loads of fun buying fabrics (Mysore is famous for its crepe de chine), silk, and beautiful handspun and handloomed cottons. Then get the tailor to copy blouses, dresses, and nightdresses. The fun is having it done -the results may be hit or miss! Ask at reception for a tailor.

Sleep on a bed of rose petals!
Ask at reception -it only costs about 100 rupees. It makes the bed very cool! You may prefer your room decorated with jasmine and marigold garlands -ask at reception! If it is a birthday or anniversary, tell reception - they will order a cake!

Go to the races
Mysore Turf Club must have the prettiest race track in the world -with the Chalmundi Hills in the background, the flower beds in the middle. When it is not being used for races, the track becomes a 9 hole golf course!

Races are held on Monday afternoons during the off season. Ask at reception for the details.

Write a book
If you have always wanted to write a novel or a travel book, here is the place to do it. Check yourself in to the Writer's Room.

Paint a picture
Several artists have spent time at the Green Hotel. We can fix up facilities in the back hall -easel, sink, and inspiration guaranteed.
